Partial Embossing on Die Cuts

Hello and Happy Monday!  My focus on my layout for today is partial embossing on die cuts.  I’ve seen some great embellishments where they are partially foiled or painted and I wanted a similar look for my scrapbook page.  Read on to see how easy this technique is!

I started by cutting two cut files on my Silhouette.  For the title I wanted the bottom half embossed with gold, so I used a piece of tape to mask off the top half and then rubbed my Versamark cube along the lower part of the die cut.  I sprinkled the embossing powder on, leaving the tape in place, and heat set it.

I also wanted the stars cut from the Snapshot paper to be partially embossed, so I used my tweezers (please ignore how beat up this pair is!) to dip part of each star into the ink cube and then dipped it in the gold embossing powder.

To assemble my layout I started by adhering the Snapshot paper onto the Melody paper, roughly centering it on the page.  I then took each of the gold embossed stars and adhered them off-set onto the Snapshot paper; this adds some visual interest to the page and gives the points of the stars a bit of lift off the background paper.

After adhering my 5×7 photo I added the partially embossed title right over the top of my photo, then used Mini Market alpha’s to finish the title area.  I few vellum pieces layered on a die cut below the title completes this area.

In the photo above you can see I also created an embellishment cluster to the right of the title with additional vellum and die cut pieces.  I added another embellishment cluster to the top left of the photo, using gold thread in a sort of “nest” to give my layout some texture.  The horse is kind of random, but I liked the gold and it works perfect in this spot.

I finished this layout using the roller date stamp, adding a few lines of journaling and then adhering a few paper strips and die cuts to the top edge of the page.

You can use any mediums to get the partial or dip-dyed look:  paint, gelato, ink, etc., just start by masking off with some low-tack tape and you’ll be ready to create.

Happy Crafting!
