Who doesn’t love a little sass on their scrapbook pages? The Hello Gorgeous collection from My Mind’s Eye is so lovely, but I needed to add some ‘tude to my page! Pops of black against the lovely florals took this layout from pretty to pretty sassy! A bit of mixed media finished the look.
- My Mind’s Eye Hello Gorgeous Ashley
- My Mind’s Eye Hello Gorgeous Jessica
- My Mind’s Eye Hello Gorgeous Mixed Bag Die Cuts
- White Cardstock
- Distress Stain Broken China
- Distress Stain Fossilized Amber
- Mister Huey’s Inky Black
- Alpha stickers (similar)
- thread, tissue paper and flair badges from my stash
I started by cutting the Ashley and Jessica papers into half inch strips, then angle cutting each strip in half. I adhered them to the white cardstock and then covered the entire area in gesso to prep for the inks. Once dry I applied the Distress Stains, drying each layer between to avoid mixing the colors. Confession time: I meant to use Distress Stain in Tumbled Glass, not Broken China! But I had already put a lot of work into the background and wasn’t willing to start over, so I made it work.
I layered my photo with tissue paper and some hand cut pieces of the patterned papers. I used the Mixed Bag Die Cuts to embellish the page, tucking and layering pieces around the photo. I had to use the Ooh Lala Girl die cut because it just fit my daughter’s face so perfectly! Don’t you love it when that works out? To make that piece stand out I layered an edge over the photo and then used a few pop dots to keep it dimensional.
I also thought the pink die cut featuring a sassy looking gal was a must-have on my layout. Just adore her attitude!
I tucked a few smaller die cuts around the photo to give lots of depth on the page, using thread nests for additional texture. I added in the black thread and ink splatters to tie in with the black and white alphas and to amp up the sass.
Two flair badges from my stash finished the layout. I love how this page is so girly and then you get a punch of ‘tude with the black elements. How do you create sassy and attitude on your pages? Happy Crafting!
