After 13 years in business, A Walk Down Memory Lane is closing

After 13 years, A Walk Down Memory Lane is closing our online and physical scrapbook & stamp store.

I know it’s cliche to say this, but this is honestly the hardest newsletter I’ve ever had to write. One I’ve been trying to not to have to write, but here we are.I have made the extremely hard decision to close A Walk Down Memory Lane’s scrapbook online store and Brick & Mortar store. I’m not going to lie to you and say it’s because of family or health issues, or other things I’ve seen store owners post over the years. I’m going to be honest with you, I can’t stay in business because sales are just not enough to stay open any more.

Over the past 13 years, I’ve seen our industry change from one of the hottest and biggest selling crafts into something people “used to do”. I still love the papercrafting world and I don’t plan on leaving it anytime soon. My focus just needs to change from retail into something else. The building has been sold, and our closing date is June 30.

I have cherished getting to know each and every one of you over the years and I will miss you all tremendously! I think that is what I will miss most of all. Seeing you on a daily, weekly, monthly (or even yearly) basis and hearing about your family, seeing pictures of your kids, helping you find the perfect paper or embellishment for a layout that you will treasure for years to come. I have enjoyed teaching many of you how to do a new technique, and I will miss teaching card classes. I will miss sharing my love of creating something on paper.

I will miss seeing my store owner friends at CHA or chatting with them online, or groaning with them about the difficulties facing our industry. I will miss our shared love of paper and stickers and stamps and ink.

I plan on continuing to host weekend retreats at Inspiration Hills as long as people are still willing to attend  🙂  I have dates booked through 2017 so I plan on continuing that service. Just watch your email for more details later about those. Our next one is at the end of April, and then I have others scheduled for October 2016, January 2017, April 2017 and October 2017.

Because I still will be hosting retreats, I will not be selling any Cricut cartridges from the library on the closeout other than the few we have duplicates of.

Starting at 10am Friday, April 15, the entire store will be at least 20% off. You will want to shop early and often as I will not be ordering anything else new for the store’s inventory, once it’s gone, it’s gone. This does not include albums, page refills or adhesives. I will continue to stock these items up until the closing date, and they will be sold at 15% off throughout the closing.

You will want to stop in often as I have more inventory in the back storage room that will be brought out to the front of the store as we get space cleared.

I will increase the closeout discounts as we go on with inventory liquidation, and will email the new discount schedule.

I will have items on the classroom tables starting May 2 for sale as well like items we’ve used for class, card samples, clearance boxes, etc. that will get added to throughout the closing sale as well. These items will be priced and sold as marked with no additional discounts.

I will not be ordering any other inventory to stock after Friday, however I will continue to special order items for you including albums, page refills and adhesives. Those items will NOT be included in the inventory reduction discount. Any special orders will be ordered and sold at 15% off their MSRP. I hope to be able to continue this service for you even after the physical location is closed.

If you have a gift card to the store, you can use that until May 15. After that, we will be canceling the subscription for that program, and gift cards will no longer be valid.

If you have a Reward Gift Certificate for filling a Reward Card, we will honor that gift certificate until May 15.

If you are a Memory Club member with time left on your membership, you will be able to use your 30% off one item for your remaining months through May 15.

After Friday, we will not be filling out Rewards Cards or awarding any more Gift Certificates for filling up a card.

You may come and check out our available fixtures and furniture in the store at any time. However, they will NOT be priced and they will NOT be sold until June 15, 2016. If there is a particular fixture that you would like, you can put your name, email and phone number in an envelope along with the fixture type and the amount you are willing to pay for that fixture and drop it off at the store by June 10, 2016.

Then, we will go through the envelopes and take the highest bid on fixtures if they meet our reserve price. You will have until June 15 to pay for and pick up your fixture. If you do not pick it up, or pay for it over the phone for a later pickup, we will put our reserve price on it and sell it to the first purchaser.

On June 15, we will have all un-sold and not picked up fixtures marked and they will be sold to the first come/first sold purchaser.

  1. Lisa! I am so sorry to read this! I hate to see yet another business go out – I know this was a joy of yours, and my heart hurts for you. May the future have good things in store [no pun ;)] for you~

Thanks Vicki. Yes, I still love it, but what can you do? I’m sure there is a plan out there, I just have to go find it. 🙂

So sorry to hear this. Can’t imagine that scrapbooking and card making is going out of style. Can’t imagine what the new craft is. It sounds like your town is growing as they are building new homes for more people that work in Rock Valley. This completely blows me away and we are all so sad about it even though you are an hour away from us.
Blessings to you and your family,
    Sally Brown
